As a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Coaching Psychologist, I follow the Code of Ethics and Conduct of the British Psychological Society and Health Care Professions Council.
Approach to Coaching
I offer coaching rather than counselling services.
Coaching definition: Enhances both personal and professional well-being and performance, underpinned by models of coaching grounded in established adult learning or psychological approaches (Division of Coaching Psychology British Psychological Society).
The first session is an assessment session. This is for you as the client to determine if I am the right psychologist to help you and for me to get an understanding of you and the areas you would like to work on. If I am not in my judgment able to help you, because of the kind of problem you have or because my training and skills are not appropriate, I will inform you of this and can support you in finding another practitioner who may be able to meet your needs.
I will work with you using several techniques to help you achieve agreed aims. As coaching can involve discussing difficult experiences, you may find some aspects of the process emotionally challenging.
Confidentiality
Except for certain specific elements described below, you have the absolute right to the confidentiality of your coaching sessions. You can give permission to share information with whomever you choose, and you can change your mind and revoke that permission at any time.
If you elect to communicate with me by email, please be aware that email is not completely confidential.
The following are legal exceptions to your right to confidentiality. I will inform you of any time when I think I will have to put these into effect.
1. If it is believed that you are in danger of harming yourself or another person, or if you give information about someone else harming a child or an adult or breaking the law.
2. I may discuss your case notes with a supervisor. This is to ensure that I offer the best possible service to you. Your identity will not be given to the supervisor.
Record-keeping
Records of sessions will be kept, noting when you attended, what interventions happened in the session and the topics discussed. You have the right to request that a copy of your file is made available to you or any other health care provider at your written request. Records will be maintained in a secure and confidential location in line with the Data Protection Regulations. By signing this consent form, you are consenting to me storing the above data and in contacting you in situations where I have not heard from you in a while. Please let me know if you would prefer me not to do this.
Cancellation
If you cancel/reschedule the session within 24 hours of the agreed time you will still be charged.
